It’s been a year since Lottie’s fiancé walked out, leaving her heartbroken. But things start to look up when she lands her dream job at a beautiful Lake District estate, with a handsome groundskeeper for a neighbour.
So when Lottie is asked to organise a last minute Christmas wedding at Firholme, she can’t wait to get started. Until she meets the couple, and discovers that Connor, the man who broke her heart, is the groom-to-be.
As snow falls on the hills, can Lottie put aside her past to organise the perfect winter wedding? And will there be any festive magic left to bring Lottie the perfect Christmas she deserves
I have seen this book a lot on social media and there’s a real buzz around it so I couldn’t wait to get stuck in.
The novel is set in the run up to Christmas as Lottie tries to move on from being jilted by her fiancé by starting a new job as events manager for a gorgeous house in the Lake District. Sadly for Lottie, the groom who is going to put their venue on the map turns out to be her ex-fiance, Connor.
Also starting a new job at the Firholme estate is Lottie’s new neighbour, the dark and brooding Jay with his trusty black Labrador, Trevor (who reminds me of my own black Labrador, Toby). Both Lottie and Jay have complicated family lives, complicated past relationships and a lot of baggage. Neither of them seem very keen to face up to their pasts either.
I really admired Lottie’s ‘can do’ attitude and the fact that despite her heart breaking inside, she was able to put her game face on and agree to organise Connor’s wedding.
There are a few twists and turns in the run up to the wedding and at one point I wasn’t even sure who, if anyone, would be getting married. I loved the unpredictability of this novel. The story ends on Christmas Day, and a reminder that all that matters at Christmas is being with those you love – no matter how big or small your circle.
This novel has definitely made me want to visit the Lake District as soon as the regional travel restrictions are lifted.
